Five years ago I was volunteering as a medic and firefighter for Charles City County in New Kent, VA. While driving a water truck to a house fire in Charles City, I lost control of my truck and flipped. A traumatic brain injury left me in the hospital for seven weeks until I woke up. I was slow at the beginning, but steadily improving. A benefit concert was held on my behalf to raise money for my family and my recovery and the turnout exceeded all of our expectations. I still can’t work, but I would like to work towards driving a car again.
“He’s got that heart. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t be where he is right now. He’s a fighter, and he’s got a lot of heart.” –Jamie Graves, Assistant Fire Chief for Charles City County
