Regarding a person’s emotion, several challenges may arise. Depression can lead to symptoms such as a flat emotional expression, lack of initiative, sadness, and irritability. Unawareness can make it difficult to understand social norms or interpret them correctly. Confabulation, or “making up stories,” may occur due to the brain trying to fill gaps in situations they don’t remember. This may be interpreted as the individual lying and cause additional difficulties. Perseveration, or getting fixed on a topic of conversation or physical action may occur. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may bring intrusive thoughts, sleep difficulties, and hypervigilance among additional challenges due to PTSD. Anxiety can worsen existing cognitive and behavioral problems.
