The Frontal Lobe
The frontal lobe can be divided into the pre-frontal cortex (anterior portion of the head) and the motor strip (curves over the top of the head). The functions of this lobe include:
- Planning and organizing
- Problem solving and judgement
- Attention
- Personality, behavior and emotional control
- Executive functions
- Spoken language (left frontal lobe) – Broca’s area
Frontal lobe injury can result in trouble:
- Getting started on tasks (Initiation)
- Being flexible with change
- Controlling emotions and impulses
- Expressing thoughts accurately
- Setting appropriate goals and planning to achieve them
