The Cerebellum
The cerebellum, located at the base of the brain, receives signals from the motor and sensory centers in order to govern movement. In addition, this area:
- Coordinates muscle tone and balance
- Controls voluntary movement
- Manages memory for reflexive motor acts and learned motor behaviors
Cerebellum injuries can contribute to:
- Unsteady walking and loss of balance
- Dizziness (Vertigo)
- Tremors
- Unable to coordinate arms/hands for tasks (Ataxia)
- Difficulty producing clear speech (Dysarthria)
