Advocating for People With Brain Injury

A key purpose for BIAV is to serve as an advocate for people with brain injury. We take this role very seriously to impact public policy to improve access to much-needed services and quality of life for our community members. We are active throughout the year, monitoring and providing education and testimony to policymakers at the state capitol, the U.S. Capitol, and various government agencies. This summer, BIAV is actively engaging with the Virginia Joint Commission on Health Care (JCHC) about TBI in long-term care settings and a workgroup hosted by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) to identify possible alternative settings for people with brain injury who experience a psychiatric crisis that may not require hospitalization in a state facility. Both issues are complex and require determination and expertise that will expand access to quality, appropriate services for people with brain injury. BIAV is committed to being the best possible advocate for our community. We will keep you posted on these crucial developments and advocacy opportunities.
