Challenges after a Brain Injury

Functional changes following brain injury are different than a broken bone, which heals over time. While the bone may be more vulnerable to future injuries and surrounding tissue may be slightly weaker, the function generally returns to pre-injury status.

A traumatic or non-traumatic brain injury on the other hand, typically results in lifelong changes in one or more areas of daily living, cognitive, physical or emotional functioning. See the chart below to view all the possible ways someone can be affected.
