The Parietal Lobe

The Parietal Lobe

The parietal lobes sit behind the frontal lobes and contain the sensory cortex, which receives and interprets information such as touch, temperature and pain. Additional roles of this lobe include:

  • Integration & identification of signals for visual-spatial skills
  • Left/right discrimination and directional awareness
  • Goal directed voluntary movements
  • Role in reading, writing and math

Injury to the parietal lobe can lead to:

  • Slowed processing speed
  • Sensory discrimination issues
  • Interpreting reading and numbers
  • Navigating environment
  • Reduced eye/hand coordination
