Announcing Volunteer Leadership Opportunities at BIAV

BIAV is pleased to announce a Call for Nominations to the Board of Directors and two of our Standing Committees of the Board. We are as strong and well-respected as we are, because we have had phenomenal board and committee volunteers leading us for decades.

BIAV is currently seeking to fill three at-large positions on the Board of Directors and at least one non-board member on each of these Standing Committees (i.e. Development and Finance).

Board Responsibilities

General Powers. All corporate powers shall be exercised by or under the authority of, and the business and affairs of the corporation managed under the direction of, the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organization, ensuring sufficient resources and providing governance/oversight of the assets and performance of the organization.

Composition and Elections. The Board of Directors shall be composed of a maximum of twenty (20) Members of the Association, all of whom must be in good standing with BIAV. It will be the goal of the Association to have at least 20% of the members of the Board of Directors who either have had a brain injury or have a family member with a brain injury.

Qualifications and Selection Process. Nominees to fill the elected director positions (three at this time) will be solicited from the general public, the membership and incumbent board members. Consideration to promoting representation according to the geographic regions of Virginia shall be given. Board members are expected to attend all board meetings, committee meetings, events and make a financial contribution to support BIAV. The Board meets five times per year. Committee meetings are held between board meetings or at the call of the Committee Chair.

Tenure. Each Director shall serve for a term of three (3) years. Terms for upcoming elections to the board shall commence on/about September 1, 2024.

Committee Responsibilities

Finance Committee  – Shall be responsible for providing financial guidance of the Association, and making recommendations to the Board of Directors concerning the Association’s budget, financial reports, audits, salaries, indebtedness and other related matters.

Development Committee – Shall be responsible for overseeing development and implementation of the organization’s fundraising program and identification and solicitation of funds from external sources of support.

              Committees generally meet 4-6 times per year via video or phone conference.

Elections to the Board and appointments to Committees will be finalized and announced by August 31, 2024.
