Learn About Brain Injury

The Brain. We all have one, and we all take it for granted…until it gets injured. This amazing organ is the consistency of Jell-O and weighs about 3 pounds in adults. It is responsible for all major functions of living including breathing, walking, talking, thinking, and feeling.

An injury to the brain can happen in a split second, with symptoms lasting a few minutes or a lifetime. Brain injury is often called the “silent epidemic” because so many of the problems experienced cannot be seen on an X-ray, CT scan, or MRI. Furthermore, many of the observable symptoms are often misinterpreted by both the general public and medical professionals.

The Brain Injury Association of Virginia has a vast library of information on a variety of topics related to brain injury. To request more information from BIAV, complete our Resource Request Form or contact us at 804-355-5748 or 1-800-444-6443.
